2004 Vintage Tasting Notes

SAUVIGNON BLANC 2004

IN THE VINEYARD
The grapes were grown at our Dakins Road and Home blocks. The blocks were selected for their ripe, tropical flavours and concentrated character. The fruit was both hand picked and machine harvested.

IN THE WINERY
The juice was cold settled for 48 hours and the clean juice was fermented over 3 weeks with various yeasts to enhance complexities. The wine was given extended contact with lees after fermentation to enhance the mouth feel and structure of the wine.
pH 3.2; TA 8.2g/l; rs 1.8g/l Alc 13%

IN THE GLASS
This wine exhibits the classic herbaceous characters aided by ripe tropical flavours. A clean palate with gooseberry and lime and underlying mineral notes. Enjoy with salads, seafood such as mussels, scallops and roast snapper fillets.

PINOT GRIS 2004

IN THE VINEYARD
The grapes were grown at our Dakins Road, Carters and Home blocks. The crop is kept low to enhance the fruit flavours we want in the wine. The fruit was harvested by block to maintain each site’s specific character.

IN THE WINERY
A part of the juice underwent a wild ferment in older French oak barrels to broaden the palate and complexity, while the rest was fermented in stainless steel to capture the clean fruit flavours. Extended lees contact was used to enhance the palate and structure
pH 3.59; TA 6.2/l; rs 9g/l; Alc 12.15%

IN THE GLASS
The wine has a spicy, stone fruit nose that follows on to peach, pear and a hint of lime on the palate. Soft yeast and bread characters ads extra complexity. Enjoy with paella, chicken curry or Thai style stir fries.

PINOT NOIR 2004

IN THE VINEYARD
The grapes were grown at our own blocks at Dakins Road and fruit from Te Muna Road. Hand selected clones, meticulous care of the vines and fruit and all hand harvested to maintain impeccable quality.

IN THE WINERY
The clones were vinified separately after a cold soak of 5 days. Hand plunged during fermentation with extended post maceration to build soft, subtle tannin structure. Matured in French oak barrels for 10 months.
pH 3.8; TA 5.3/l;;Alc 13.8%

IN THE GLASS
Ruby red in colour, with a “Burgundian” style of forest floor and earthy notes on the nose. The palate delivers raspberry, red cherry and soft spice. Well integrated oak and a fine balance of fruit and tannins make this an elegant wine. Drink now and for another 5 years.

RIESLING 2004

IN THE VINEYARD
The grapes were grown at our Home blocks. The fruit was hand harvested and sorted to maintain clean, healthy fruit quality.

IN THE WINERY
The juice was cold settled for 2 days prior to a cool fermentation in stainless steel to maintain the fresh, vibrant flavours. A few weeks spent on light lees helped build a full palate.
pH 3.24; TA 9.1g/l; rs 5.6g/l; Alc 12.5%

IN THE GLASS
The wine has a classic Riesling nose of citrus with grapefruit and lime. These flavours follow on to the palate that has a richness of honeyed apples wih a fresh acidic finish.

AULD ALLIANCE 2004

IN THE VINEYARD
The Auld Alliance is a wine composed of the best of our Bordeaux varieties every year. Careful fruit selection from our Dakins Road blocks, hand picking and low crop levels are all ways that we use to ensure and maintain the great quality of this wine.

IN THE WINERY
The different cultivars (85%Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc) were cold soaked for 5 days prior to fermentation in separate batches. Hand plunged and given extended post-ferment maceration. Matured in 90% French oak and 10% American oak barrels for 12 -14 months.
pH 3.60; TA 5.8g/l; Alc 13%

IN THE GLASS
The Merlot initially dominates the nose with fruitcake aromas of red cherry, ripe plums and soft spice. The underlying soft oak and supple tannins make this a very well balanced wine. Drink now or cellar for 4-6 years.

ROSÉ 2004

IN THE VINEYARD
The Gladstone Rosé was made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown specifically for this wine from our Dakins Road and Home blocks. Machine harvested to maintain soft, ripe flavours.

IN THE WINERY
The grapes were left in the press for 12 hours to extract colour and flavour before a cool fermentation to keep the juicy red berry and cherry flavours. A small amount of Pinot Noir was then blended in tho enhance the structure and colour. The wine was then cold stabilized, filtered and bottled.
pH 3.65; TA 6.6g/l; rs 3.2g/l; Alc 12.5%

IN THE GLASS
A great summer wine with rhubarb pink colour and strawberry, raspberry and caramelized confectionary on the nose. The palate is rich, yet delicate and floral and has a crisp finish. Enjoy over the summer
