2007 Vintage Tasting Notes

SAUVIGNON BLANC 2007

IN THE VINEYARD
The grapes were grown at our Dakins Road and Home blocks. The blocks were selected for their ripe, tropical flavours and concentrated character. The fruit was both hand picked and machine harvested.

IN THE WINERY
The juice was cold settled for 48 hours and the clean juice was fermented over 3 weeks with various yeasts to enhance complexities, with a partial barrel ferment to help build the palate. The wine was given extended contact with lees after fermentation to enhance the mouth feel and structure of the wine.
pH 3.26; TA 6.75g/l; rs 2.2g/l Alc 13.6%

IN THE GLASS
A ripe tropical nose of mango, pineapple, gooseberry and lime. A full palate with concentrated fruit and weight with a crisp finish. Drink now, or cellar for three years. Enjoy with salads, seafood such as mussels, scallops and roast snapper fillets.

PINOT GRIS 2007

IN THE VINEYARD
The grapes were grown at our Dakins Road and Home blocks. The crop is kept low to enhance the fruit flavours we want in the wine. The fruit was harvested by block to maintain each site’s specific character.

IN THE WINERY
This juice was partially fermented in older oak barrels to broaden the palate and complexity, while the rest was fermented in stainless steel to capture the clean fruit flavours. Extended lees contact was used to enhance the palate and structure
pH 3.34; TA 7.12/l; rs 3.5g/l; Alc 14.3%

IN THE GLASS
The wine has a complex nose of ripe pear, litchi and orange peel. A hint of cinnamon and vanilla is followed by a rich, velvety palate with a long finish. Enjoy with paella, chicken curry or Thai style stir fries.

ROSÉ 2007

IN THE VINEYARD
The Gladstone Rosé was made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes grown specifically for this wine from our Dakins Road and Home blocks. Machine harvested to maintain soft, ripe flavours.

IN THE WINERY
The grapes were left in the press for 12 hours to extract colour and flavour before a cool fermentation to keep the juicy red berry and cherry flavours. The wine was then cold stabilized, filtered and bottled.
pH 3.37; TA 5.4g/l; rs 3.29g/l; Alc 12.9%

IN THE GLASS
A great summer wine with pale salmon colour and strawberry, raspberry and candy floss on the nose. The palate is rich, yet delicate and floral and has a crisp finish. Enjoy over the summer

PINOT NOIR 2007

IN THE VINEYARD
The grapes were grown at our own blocks at Dakins Road and fruit from Te Muna Road. Hand selected clones (5, 6, 13, 114, 115, 667, 777 and Abel), meticulous care of the vines and fruit were all hand harvested to maintain impeccable quality.

IN THE WINERY
The clones were vinified separately after a cold soak of 5 days. Hand plunged during fermentation with extended post ferment maceration to build soft, subtle tannin structure. Matured in French oak barrels for 10 months.

pH 3.62; TA 6.53/l;rs 0.3g/l;Alc 14.5%

IN THE GLASS
Deep purple colour, good intensity of ripe plum, black cherry and a savoury spice finish. Well structured wine with dense, fine tannins reflective of the small crop size. Sweet & ripe on entry, fleshy fruit on the mid palate backed by subtle oak flavours with long length on the finish. Great now but will improve over the next 6-8 years.
